A joint Academic meeting between College of Medical Educationists (CME) and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna was successfully held on 21st of October, 2016 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna. The meeting was inaugurated with addresses from Prof. K. Sivapalan former Dean, Faculty of Medicine Jaffna and Prof. Indika Karunathilake, President, College of Medical Educationists.
The meeting was attended by more than thirty enthusiastic academic staff members. The participants from Jaffna were from the Faculty of Medicine, Allied Health Sciences and the extended faculty from the Teaching Hospital, Jaffna. The College of Medical Educationists was represented at the meeting by Faculties of Medicine of University of Colombo, University of Peradeniya and Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.
The programme included four plenary sessions and a panel discussion. The plenary sessions were on;
• The overview of assessments in Jaffna
• Current trends in assessment
• Ensuring reliability and validity of assessment
• Outcome based education
The resource persons were; Dr. Mrs. G. Sathiadas (Consultant Paediatrician and Head Medical Education Unit, Jaffna), Prof. Indika Karunathilake (Head, Department of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo), Dr. Kosala Marambe (Director, Medical Education Unit, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya), Dr. Gominda Ponnamperuma (Senior Lecturer, Department of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo) and Prof. P.T.Jayawickramarajah (Patron, College of Medical Educationists).
The resource sessions were well received by participants. They actively engaged in the panel discussion as well.
The meeting was jointly organized by the College of Medical Educationists and the Medical Education Unit of the Faculty of Medicine, Jaffna.
