The Induction of the President & College Oration 2020 (Rescheduled event in 2021) was held on Friday 15th January, 2021 at 3.00 pm at the physiology lecture theatre of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, adhering to the health regulations imposed by the Sri Lankan government for prevention of the spread of COVID 19. The number of onsite participants were limited to 25 and the proceedings were web streamed with the assistance of the Technical Resource Centre of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya. Special feature of the event was the online participation of the invitees from all parts of the country and the globe.
The program was initiated by the short ceremonial procession, lighting of the oil lamp and singing of the national anthem. The welcome address was delivered by the Past President, Professor Madawa Chandratilake. This was followed by the induction of the new president of the CME, Professor Kosala Marambe and the Presidential Address.
The Chief Guest, Professor P.T. Jayawickramarajah, a former WHO representative and Head of mission in Thailand, former President of the Forum of Medical Educationists, Sri Lanka addressed the gathering. The College Fellowships were awarded to Prof. Raja Bandaranayake, Professor Madawa Chandratilake and Professor Gominda Ponnamperuma in honour of their contributions to Medical Education in Sri Lanka and overseas.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.Wasana Jayaratne, the Secretary of the CME.
Cultural show included video recordings of musical performances of two batches of Medical Students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
The final event of the day was the second oration of the College, which was delivered by Dr Sisira Dharmaratne titled “Expertise development in clinical practice: Reflections from a study on clinical reasoning within a challenging context in Sri Lanka”
The event was short and concluded with the ceremonial procession leaving the hall followed by a brief fellowship outdoors.
